I’ve lived here my whole life, and not planning on changing that any time soon. Beautiful beaches, warm Gulf waters, fishing, boating, bird watching, shopping. No matter your interest, we’ve got it all and because of our beautiful weather… it never stops, year round. There’s always something to do.
People have been living in and around the Port Isabel area since 1519. First chartered by the Spanish explorer Alonzo de Pineda, the area boasts a long, colorful history including tales of Pirates and stories of buried treasure.
Perhaps the most recognizable landmark of the area is the historic Port Isabel Lighthouse. First built in 1852, the lighthouse remains a monument to the rich history of the area.
The Lighthouse Keeper’s Cottage, on the grounds of the Port Isabel lighthouse also highlights the maritime history of the Laguna Madre area.
Located on the extreme southern tip of the world's longest barrier island is the beautiful, South Padre Island, Texas. The island is bordered on the east by the Gulf of Mexico and the Laguna Madre Bay to the west.
Just 30 miles north of Mexico, the island is linked to the mainland and Port Isabel by the 2.5 mile Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway.
Originally named "Isla Blanca" or "White Sand" by its Spanish settlers, the streets are bustling with retail shops, resort hotels, condominium towers, restaurants and numerous recreational activities.
Combined with the beautiful weather, it's easy see why the area has become one of the hottest year-round vacation destinations. For more information
